SCION is a secure path-aware Internet technology with an open-source implementation that’s designed to meet the requirements of critical infrastructures and currently used for the Secure Swiss Finance Network (SSFN). SCION can utilise commodity Internet connections from multiple ISPs, but allows pre-determined trust domains to be established and ensures that data travels through these. This eliminates common vulnerabilities including routing attacks, whilst offering high resilience, availability and geofencing capability.

This talk will discuss the SCION architecture and trust model, the community-developed open source implementation and standardisation work, and how SCION can help with EU regulatory compliance. It will also highlight the use case of the SIX Group-operated SSFN which provides the payment and bank clearing infrastructure for the Swiss financial sector.
